Mary Acton-Bond has been in the nonprofit world as an Executive Director for 12 years. She joined Family SOS in December 2018. “Family is a huge part of my life right now so I feel as though I should be supporting other families. It’s less of a job and more of a vocation.” She wants to give back to her community and feels as though the best way for that is to work for a grassroots organization -- to make the place we live better.
Mary is originally from Ottawa, but spent her teenage years growing up in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. In her spare time, you’ll find her exploring museums, practicing yoga, and spending time with her husband, her 1 year old and 6 year old boys.
Meet Nicole Hankinson! Nicole is our Family Support Team Lead and has been working with Family SOS since 2011. She ensures we provide best practices for all of our parenting programs, which includes both of the Positive Parenting Groups as well as our In Home Support Program. She listens to families’ stories and helps them identify parenting goals that are most important to them. She then works through how we can best support them in achieving those goals. Nicole has a two and three-year-old at home, so most of her time is spent chasing those two around, which she loves. When she does get some time to herself she enjoys reading, running and just being alone! Her favourite part of the job is seeing the renewed sense of hope and motivation within the family.

Dustin Boudreau found his passion for working with youth when he moved to Nova Scotia from Alberta. Having grown up in Fort McMurray, Dustin was exposed to the negative influences and situations that youth face. Dustin wanted to mentor youth to help them make better choices and be successful in life. Dustin pulled from his education as a personal trainer and his personal experiences to create the Building Up Integral Life Decisions (B.U.I.L.D.) Program. After two years, Dustin continued his career helping youth engage in recreation across Halifax by joining the Halifax Regional Centre for Education as the Sport Animator. After five years working in the education system, Dustin realized he wanted to get back to working directly with youth. Starting as a Child and Youth Worker with Family SOS, Dustin will start as the Family SOS Greystone Centre Lead in the Fall and plans to continue working with youth for many years to come.
