The Lunchbox Project

Thanks to generous donations, our onsite chef prepares free healthy meals for over 400 students each week at Rockingstone Heights Elementary School. Favourite meals include stir-fry and rice, curry, and macaroni and cheese.

In Spring, 2024, this program has expanded to include 200 lunches prepared weekly at J.L. Ilsley High School in Spryfield.

These healthy, free school lunches are served on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at Rockingstone Heights, and on Thursdays at J.L. Ilsley from September-June.

The Community Market

In partnership with Feed Nova Scotia, Family SOS hosts a Community Market on Fridays from 12:00pm-1:00pm at the Greystone Centre, located at 4 Cranberry Court.

Registration is required. Please bring a valid NS ID. Each household can receive food once per week.

Please bring two large reusable grocery bags to receive your food.

Please line up outside the building to receive your food items. A volunteer or staff member will greet you at the door and volunteers will fill your bags and meet you at the second door.

This market provides food support for over 125 families each week, so please be respectful of staff, volunteers, and others waiting in line.

Community members receive a variety of food items, including fresh produce, dairy, canned goods, and meat.

You are welcome to leave behind any items that you do not want in the bin for other community members to take during Market hours.

Please contact us at healthykidz@familysos.ca or 902-455-5515 ext. 350 for more information on how to access the Market, or to volunteer.
