Family SOS was founded in 1978 by Dr. John Anderson, a Pediatrician at the IWK. While working in the Emergency Room, Dr. Anderson witnessed first hand the need for a proactive approach to addressing child abuse and neglect in the Halifax Regional Municipality. Family SOS Association was founded to respond to this need, taking a preventative approach to assisting families through developing parenting confidence and skills and providing child-centered programming.
Family SOS will proactively provide services and support to families and communities in need and adapt as their needs and families evolve.
