Who We Are

Our dedicated front line staff consists of our social worker and three intervention workers; our Healthy KidzTM coordinator and several youth workers. We also rely on volunteers to round out some of our program needs.

Our intervention services are provided to families who live within Halifax Regional Municipality boundaries; however our support and advocacy services are not limited to municipal boundaries. We offer a variety of individual, group and community based programs for families. All of our clients access our services on a voluntary basis.

Family SOS utilizes a child and family centered framework of practice, which recognizes that although interventions target parents, our ultimate purpose is to increase the well being of their children. Simply put, our agency is guided by principles which support our beliefs that:

  • Children have the right to grow up free of abuse, discrimination, violence, or injury.
  • That there should be opportunities for all infants, children and youth to develop their potential.
  • That all kinds of parents may require some form of support throughout parenthood and life.
  • That ideally, the best place for children to be raised is in their family.

Family SOS also believes that in those family situations where the needs of children are not met or where they are at risk of harm, children have the right to community-based interventions. Where necessary and appropriate we also refer our clients to other community or government based agencies.
