Heidi started her career as a television news reporter in her home province of Saskatchewan, before moving on to work in Calgary, Toronto, Corner Brook, and St. John’s. Over the years, she has worked in both radio and television as a news reporter, host, producer, and writer.
She is a highly-skilled communicator who has interviewed hundreds of people including Academy Award winner Olympia Dukakis, Canadian rocker Kim Mitchell, baseball Hall of Famer Roberto Alomar and Col. Chris Hadfield. Heidi has also interviewed countless people across Canada who simply have compelling personal stories to share.
She has reported on many key events in Canada – from federal elections and floods, to the collapse of the Atlantic fishery, the immediate aftermath of the 9-11 attacks, and Moncton shootings in 2014.
On CTV Morning Live, Heidi plays an active role both producing and hosting. She not only informs the morning show audience but she also interacts with them via social media – keeping track of trends and breaking news.
Heidi regularly lends her talents to fundraisers for Maritime organizations such as The IWK Foundation, Christmas Daddies, Adsum House and the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia to name a few.
Heidi was recently named “Media Person of the Year” by the Tema Conter Memorial Trust for her coverage on PTSD among first responders in Canada.
When she’s not in studio or booking guests for CTV Morning Live, Heidi enjoys playing the French horn, cooking and spending time in the great outdoors.
Recipient Panel Interviewer - Kanaar Bell
Kanaar Bell is a 4th year psychology student with a minor in business at Saint Mary's University Halifax. Originally from Calgary, AB; at age twelve, he moved to Oshawa, ON with his mother and sister where he discovered his passion for football. This passion provided him the opportunity to move to Nova Scotia and study at Saint Mary's University.
As a student leader involved in many community engagements and campus initiatives, he has found new passions in life. Kanaar loves meeting new people and is motivated to support others through their personal struggles with mental health as he has personally experienced the impacts of neglecting such issues on an individual, family, and community. As one of Family SOS's youth workers he has proven to be a mentor for our children, and youth alike.
As co-interviewer for “Our Journey of Voices” Kanaar is able to delve into the life stories of others to uncover events (milestones) that built them into the person they are today. He and his partner, Andreas Robinson, started this interview series to highlight the power of storytelling. Through "Our Journey of Voices 2017", interviewees are able to stand in their truth and communicate their guiding philosophies to empower youth. We are thrilled to have Kanaar leading our panel discussion with our incredible recipients at the 12th Annual Courage To Give Back Awards on February 2nd!
